Shape from Shading with discontinuous image brightness

The Shape–from–Shading models in image analysis lead to first order Hamilton– Jacobi equations which may have several weak solutions (in the viscosity sense). Moreover, for real images, these equations are highly discontinuous in the space variable. The lack of uniqueness and the irregularity of the coefficients involve some troubles when we try to compute a solution. In order to avoid these di...

Skeletonization via Viscosity Solutions for Hamilton-jacobi Pde

Our purpose in this work is to give an original and very simple approach for computing the skeleton of a closed shape. This approach is based on the relationship between Stochastic differential equations and viscosity solutions of certain PDE. We illustrate the effectiveness of viscosity solution methods for Hamilton-Jacobi PDE by designing a new approach for calculating the skeleton of 2D and ...

A small note on L theory for Stokes problem with a pressure dependent viscosity

In this paper we study higher local integrability of a weak solution to the steady Stokes problem. We consider a case of a pressure and shear-rate dependent viscosity, i.e. the elliptic part of the Stokes problem is assumed to be nonlinear and it depends on p and on a symmetric part of a gradient of u, namely, it is represented by a stress tensor T (Du, p) := ν(p, |D|)D which satisfies r−growth...

Measuring the Density and Viscosity of Carbonated Aqueous 35 wt% Methyldiethanolamine Solution

The density and viscosity of carbonated aqueous 35wt% methyldiethanolamine solution were experimentally measured accompanied with the solubility of CO2 at temperatures from (303.15 to 363.15) K and pressures up to 0.8 MPa using the new setup developed in our laboratory. It was observed that both density and viscosity of mixtures decrease by increasing temperature and incr...

Viscosity Solutions for a System of Integro-pdes and Connections to Optimal Switching and Control of Jump-diffusion Processes

We develop a viscosity solution theory for a system of nonlinear degenerate parabolic integro-partial differential equations (IPDEs) related to stochastic optimal switching and control problems or stochastic games. In the case of stochastic optimal switching and control, we prove via dynamic programming methods that the value function is a viscosity solution of the IPDEs. In our setting the val...
